El Frutero
Project: Furniture design
Material: Birch Wood
Year: 2018
Place: Stockholm, Sweden
If you think of most comfortable seating furniture you might think of a bulky, squishy and soft sofa, in which you can lay down the whole day. El frutero was my first test in Malmstens University at Stockholm, in which we had a pretty simple brief, make a stool so we could learn how to use all the machines at school, Scandinavian woodworking techniques, and of course Scandinavian design. With that said I wanted to make one of the most uncomfortable seating furniture in my perspective and context into a really comfortable stool with an added bonus of being RTA so I could take it back home on a plane to mexico. El Frutero has a shape of a fruit bowl using a bent veneer technique which is divided into to pieces, each piece has 2 legs, and after being assembled together it holds the seating couch on top locked by a single screw at the bottom.
